1731 AD: Hundreds of men, woman and children alike – the Bishnoi Community – hugged the lush green Khejri trees, clinging to them like a child embracing a mother, like a body clinging to its soul…Their irrevocable love for the nature laced with their unwavering bravery spoke only one motto: Save the trees for they are our souls!
In what became one of the greatest acts to preserve our Mother Nature, Chipko Movement – where 363 Bishnois were massacred – saw the light of the day, the victory of Love and the phenomenal triumph of Nature: an exemplary tale of sacrifice and devotion for the future generations to come…
Come 2017: Aarey Forest, the green lung of Mumbai. The Maharashtra Govt. is hell bent on constructing a Metro-train shed that requires the sacrifice (slaughter is the right term) of 3500 trees!
Contention of Govt: There are 5 lakhs trees, 3500 won’t make a difference! This callous indifference can make all the adverse difference! The so called Green Government has shown its colorless insensitivity. What they don’t realize is that even a single tree is trillion times more important than a mundane million metros and that in the era of global warming and ever-increasing depletion of natural reserves, cutting of one tree is synonymous to cutting a thousand human lives!
In the rush to urbanize our Nation, we are undermining our Nature.
Let me ask you one question: Have you planted a single tree in the last month? No? Okay, then in the last one year? No? In the last 10 years? Still No? Ever since you were born? NO!
ATLEAST SAVE THE TREES IF YOU CAN’T PLANT THEM!
And if you can’t spare time travelling to Mumbai and hug those life-giving trees, spare only a few seconds to sign this petition: https://www.change.org/p/cm-devendra-fadnavis-stop-the-cutting-of-3500-trees-in-aarey-forest
